Tension-free Inguinal Herniorrhaphy with Polypropylene Mesh

Abstract
Tension-free inguinal herniorrhaphy with polypropylene mesh were performed in 46 patients at the Department of General Surgery, Incheon Christian Hospital from May, 1994 to April, 1995.
@ES Clinical analysis and results were as follows:
@EN 1) The m9st prevalent age group was 7th decade in 14 cases(30.4%) and male to female ratio was 10.5:1.
2) The location of inguinal hernias were right side(26 cases), left side(17 cases), and both side(3 cases).
3) The types of hernia were indirect 40(85.7%), and direct 7(14.3%).
4) The incidence of the preoperative combined disease was about 30.5%.
5) Polypropylene mesh from Johnson & Johnson, Comp, was used as the prosthetic material and the anesthesia was performed with 39 locals, 6 generals, and 1 spinal.
6) the average time of operation was 47.4 min.
7) The incidence of the postoperative complication was about 6.5%.
8) the average duration in the hospital after operation was 4.8 days.
9) The average time to return to work was 12.4 days and the average time for complete relief of pain was 15.8 days.
10) Although the follow up was short, there was no recurrence or postoperative motality.
This technique is simple, rapid, less painful, and effective; allowing prompt resumption of unrestricted physical activity.
